Mandate
The College shall train staff to the highest possible standards of competence and integrity and to respect human right and dignity as provided for under Article 244 (d) of the Constitution of Kenya, 2010.
Functions:
The Unit is established to support the following functions of the Kenya Police Service in accordance with Section 24 of the National Police Service Act, 2011.
• Providing security to his Excellency the President, state houses / lodges
• Providing security for selected foreign Airlines
• Providing security to vital installations and strategic points
• Crowd Management
• Carrying out anti-poaching operations and escort duties
• Anti banditry operations
• Countering terrorism activities and insurgencies

The Nairobi Metropolitan Police Unit (NMPU) is a specialized, technology-driven security formation established under the National Police Service Standing Orders to overhaul capital crime management through AI surveillance, real-time command systems, and multi-agency cooperation, formed under Legal Notice No. 138 gazetted on July 30, 2026.
Headquarters & Command
· Headquarters: Proposed at Kamkunji Police Station structured as a modern security complex.
· Leadership: Headed by a Commandant reporting directly to the Deputy Inspector General of the Kenya Police Service.
· Operations Hub: Anchored by the Integrated Command and Communication Centre (IC4) for real-time tracking and a Multi-Agency Liaison Office.
